Shelley Duvall is a 70's icon American film and tv series actress and producer. Starring in movies by Woody Allen, Stanley Kubrick, Terry Gilliam and Tim Burton, she is best known for her roles in The Shining, Popeye, Frankenweenie and 3 Women where she was awarded Best Actress by the Cannes Film Festival.
As a producer, Shelley Duvall started her own production company called Platypus Productions wherein she was able to create a series of television series like Faerie Tale Theatre in 1982 which was based on classic fairy tales and Tall Tales & Legends in 1985 which was based on American folk tales.
Here's a little sketch then edit I made of the inspiring Shelley Duvall.
Actress, model, and recently turned fashion designer Chloë Sevigny is not only the ultimate style icon IT-girl, but is also a living breathing inspiration to women around the world.
She's known to think out of the box and has never been afraid of new challenges and have often seen to be trying something new even if its out of her comfort zone. No wonder she's been in a few mishaps and controversies. Remember Cannes Film Festival in 2003? People feared the end of her acting career when she took on a lead female role in The Brown Bunny where she was seen giving co-star & director, Vincent Gallo, a fellatio.
Critics and even her agency scorned her for being "one step above pornography",and William Morris Agency eventually dropped her as a client.
But it didn't take long until Chloë Sevigny was back on her feet and all it took was Big Love in 2006, a critically-acclaimed & highly popular TV series by HBO that continues to broadcast till this very day which shows an unusual take on polygamy as a husband with his children from three wives all settle under one roof in a modern day American setting. Ironically, Chloë Sevigny is a practicing Roman Catholic.
So why be in awe of Chloë Sevigny? Well, why not? You'll be head over heels in love when you see her collaboration with Opening Ceremony .
"Opening Ceremony is a multifaceted retail environment comprised of shops, showroom, and private label collection that establishes a new, international creative forum in downtown Manhattan. Opening Ceremony brings together emerging American talent with both young and established designers and artists from abroad. Each year, the unique commercial and cultural character of a visiting country is represented at Opening Ceremony by capturing the essence of the country’s consumer experience. Opening Ceremony has also become known for its myriad collaborations with the likes of Chloë Sevigny, Spike Jonze, Pendleton, Levi's, Timberland, Keds, Robert Clergerie, and more."
It all started in 2008 and I personally think it's kismet since Chloë's always been a style icon herself ever since the 90's check out Exhibit A:
And you'll be amazed with how far she's grown from that to Exhibit B:
And from modeling and acting, Chloë's made headlines in the fashion industry. Check out Exhibit C:
A sweet and edgy vintage take when it comes to fashion, Chloë continues to set the trend as she designs head-to-toe for Opening Ceremony. Watch out for her latest Resort 2011 collection and here's a sneak peek just because I know how hard it is to keep good news to yourself. Teehee.
Chloë Sevigny never fails to give me an itch for fashion & after all the photos and vidoes I've seen, I don't think I'll ever stop itchin for more of Chloë's line!
Introducing one of my all-time favorite music video
If I could hold Hold out for now With these icecaps melting down With the transistor sound And my Chevrolet terraplane Going around around around
Come on little gamma ray Standing in a hurricane
Your brains are bored like a refugee from a house that's burning And the heat wave's calling your name She's got a cactus crown With a dot dot dot on her brow And she speaks inside a cloud With her countenance turning around
It hit me like a gamma ray Standing in a hurricane
I'm pulling out thorns Smokestack lightning out my window I want to know what I've lost today
Come on little gamma ray Standing in a hurricane
Your body's bored Like a refugee from a house that's burning And the backwater's calling your name

And in the dim yellow light I see What was becoming of me Woman is what woman does Bat your eyelashes once Close to your lover Open to another To see how fickle dreams could be Honesty yet another scarcity And as you lay your head down to sleep And ponder the existence of an honest man to keep You tell yourself it's worth the dream To indulge in fantasies while they're free To make love with all intensity Lay bare with all your dignity For mistaken, ever shaken Of love we've known but now forsaken For nothing more than intimacy While heavy breaths lay to rest Side by side, like corpses sharing beds As we close our eyes and claim ourselves free Unaware & doomed for all eternity
Annie Erin Clark is a one of a kind singer-songwriter multi-instrumentalist who's been keeping me company throughout my summer soundtrack.
If her name doesn't ring a bell, then you best know her as St.Vincent.
Currently residing in New York, she started out touring with Sufjan Stevens, bringing along her EP containing three tracks.
Now she's released 2 albums, mainly Marry Me under Beggars Banquet Records in 2007 and Actor in 2009.
She's opened shows for The National, Grizzly Bear, Death Cab for Cutie, and Arcade Fire which all happen to be a few of my favorites as well.
Her melodic almost transcendental take combined with her soulful honest lyrics is not only soothing to the ears, but to the gray matter as well.
A few of my favorite tracks include:
Just the Same but Brand New The people on the street have overtaken you By the time you rounded Second Avenue So I walked away all perfumed Felt just the same but brand new
And anything you wrote I checked for codes and clues The letters stopped unceremoniously in June So I changed my I's & A's to yours I'm just the same but brand new
And I do my best impression of weightlessness now too And I might be wrong, I might be wrong, I might be wrong But honey I believed I could
Float away dangling I'm just the same but brand new to You.
